GIOIA 22, Milan, Italy

Project data

Location: Milan, Italy

  • Support of the construction of a 120 m tall office building in the Porta Nuova district of Milan
  • First building of its size in Italy to meet the NZEB standard (nearly zero energy consumption building)
  • Innovative use of interior and exterior space: thanks to its 225,000 integrated photovoltaic panels, the building covers 65% of its annual energy requirements using renewable sources
  • The 30 storey high building with around 68,500 m2 of gross floor area provides enough space for approximately 2,700 people, 350 parking spaces and 13 lifts

Requirements

  • The building consists of a main core with 26 floors and a secondary core with 13 floors
  • From the second floor upwards, the building starts to fold in on itself: the slabs become wider with each passing floor
  • Complex transition from consistent to inclined building geometry between the main and secondary cores
  • Construction workers were able to work safely and efficiently in equal measure
  • Tight construction deadline

Customer

Colombo Costruzioni S.p.A.

Customer's benefit

  • Adherence to the demanding schedule
  • Cost and time saving due to use of TRIO Wall Formwork and SKYDECK Slab Formwork
  • Optimisation of construction time thanks to 7-day concreting cycle and efficient transportation of materials with laterally installed RCS MP Material Platforms
  • Improved safety levels for construction team due to sophisticated safety concept, even at great heights
  • Constant on-site support from PERI so as to optimise work processes at the construction site

An original and structurally complex opera, which required the use of different equipment and high technology systems to deal with the progress of concrete works in the best way. The technical and operational collaboration between Colombo Costruzioni S.p.A. and PERI Italia has made possible to follow a tight production planning of this construction site, placing at the peak of the attention always at the safety of each workers.

PERI solution

  • Exceptional design made possible by project-specific system combination
  • Complex connection of the two building cores realised thanks to customised RCS Climbing Unit using vertical as well as laterally inclined climbing rails
  • Combination of 17 RCS P Climbing Protection Panel Systems with guide rail systems to form the building section with consistent geometry and 15 non-guided, crane-climbed RCS P Climbing Protection Panels for the inclined section of the residential tower
  • TRIO Panel Formwork was combined with the BR Shaft Platform and the RCS C Rail Climbing Formwork to form the lift shafts
  • SKYDECK Slab Formwork was combined with an additional RCS P System Solution to install the slabs from the second floor upwards
  • SRS Circular Column Formwork used to form the 17 columns of which seven are inclined
  • Approximately 1,000 m² of TRIO Panel Formwork was used to construct the walls of both cores
  • Sophisticated safety concept with RCS P Climbing Protection Panels and more than 4,000 linear meters of PROKIT
